This magnificent antique French ormolu mount would originally have come from a mirror, bed or armoire and dates from about 1880.

It is a substantial piece of excellent quality and with wonderful detail to the casting.

A gorgeous shell festooned with the most divine roses and leaves forms it's crest. From either side of this, luxuriant laurel leaf garlands spread to complete the ensemble.

The mount is nice and heavy and the excellent detail to the casting gives the shell and roses their wonderful three dimensional quality.

The gilding on the ormolu has mellowed over the years to a beautiful soft old gold hue.

This fabulously decorative mount would look stunning over a doorway or as a centre piece on a curtain pelmet. Fixed above a bed it could form part of a ciel de lit from which to drape curtains.

It has 4 holes for fixing and measures 42 cm (16.5 inches) across x 10 cm (4 inches) high.
