This is a sublime antique French ormolu casket dating from about 1870. It would be perfect for displaying trinkets and would add a chateau chic touch to any boudoir.

It is oval in shape and has a bevelled glass lid. Around the side the ormolu has a fantastic frieze decorated with scrolls and griffins. The casket stands on 4 darling little feet, each with a tiny heart and 3 little flowers.

Inside, the casket is lined with padded and buttoned silk. The silk was originally  a deep shade of pink but it has faded over the years to a beautiful subtle shade of tea rose. The silk is worn, as one would expect, but is largely intact.

The casket is in good general condition but has had some knocks over the years which add to it's gorgeous timeworn charm. The glass is clear and the hinge works smoothly

The ormoulu has an old gold hue and has some areas of verdigris, an effect that cannot be replicated.

The casket measures 13 cm (5 inches) wide x 10 cm (4 inches) deep x 6 cm (2.3 inches) high.
