This is a superb piece of antique French blue and white striped mattress ticking dating from the early 1900's.

The ticking would have originally been used to make a mattress cover which would have been stuffed with feathers to make the mattress. This piece has still got a soft down of feathers on the reverse side.

The textile is a tight cotton weave which is very strong and would be perfect for upholstery projects.

The ticking has a blue base colour similar to that of dark denim. This is alternated with broad bands of narrow blue and antique white stripes.

Although used, the ticking is thick and crisp. There are a few rust marks approx. 20 cm from one edge. It also has a few light marks as one would expect but these are only surface marks and would launder out.

There is plenty of textile for projects, this piece measures 198 cm (6 ft 6 inches) long x 138 cm (4 ft 6 inches) wide.

A fabulous piece of period textile to add a little vintage French charm to any home.
