BF383

Product no.: BF383

This is a magnificent pair of antique French tapestry château curtains dating from the 1800's. They are full of faded grandeur and are a feast for the eyes.

They are made from heavy wool weave and drape superbly. They are a fabulous shade of claret red and have a fantastic decorative tapestry border.

They have their original toleware curtain rings sewn to the top. We have displayed them with their original tassel tie backs which we have listed in our other items.

The tapestry border on the curtains is a gorgeous profusion of flowers, leaves and scrolls. The leaves and scrolls are in lovely subtle greens and ochres and the flowers are in soft pinks and pale yellow.

The curtains are very heavy and thick, and, as well as looking superb, would be perfect for keeping the draughts out.

They are in excellent condition and are very usable just as they are. The textile is all intact with no holes. There is some fading to the outer edge of each curtain as one would expect after over a hundred years. This does not detract in any way from their beauty and adds to their faded grandeur appeal.

With very careful inspection it can be seen that there are some very faint white chalky marks and one of the curtains has a very faint darker mark. These are not at all obvious and do not draw the eye.

The curtains still have their original gold coloured linings which have some wear but could easily be replaced if required.

Each curtain measures :-

253 cm (8 ft 4 inches) long x 123 cm (4 ft 1 inch) wide. This does not include the curtain rings which are 7 cm (2.75 inches) to the outside & 5 cm (2 inches) to the inside in diameter.

This is a fabulous pair of antique French curtains to add an authentic château chic statement to the grandest of homes.

Another divine period French textile find from La Brocante Française.
